The company grew from two best friends - one friend, Ben Ross, with the idea, and the other friend, Jeff Plotner, with the foresight to see the genius behind To reflect the natural beauty of the South, but elevate it with impeccable intricacy, Ben handcrafted a set of turkey feather bow ties for his groomsmen in 2007.
Shalla Wista Studio opened in 2006 as designer, Laura Gaines, was seeking an opportunity to create imaginative pieces for women to feel beautiful wearing. She designs out of a studio in Birmingham, just above a buzzing, local coffee shop that she frequents daily. Shalla Wista soon grew into a national brand that can be recognized for its unprecedented and elegant design.
For Laura, it is less about trends and more about her unique eye for unexpected beauty and her loyalty to the craft of handmade jewelry. She gains inspiration from her interaction with the world outside her studio, finding brilliance in nature and seeking to create pieces that mimic its organic beauty. The combination of leather, gold, semi-precious stones, and oxidized silver gives her work a spontaneous and uniquely original platform.
“I have amazing dreams with so much color that when I wake up, I cannot wait to use them in my pieces!”
Laura aims to create pieces that a woman loves wearing - effortless and stunning all in the same breath - allowing her even more excitement to be uniquely her.

La Vie Parisienne by Catherine Popesco
Rambling about Paris, Catherine discovered a treasure trove of stampings– many over 200 years old in the old factories and workshops of Paris. Most of these gems were originally designed by celebrated artists and shining lights of their era, such as Lalique, Mucha, Galle and Picasso.
With her vivid imagination, Catherine uses the invaluable treasures of French artistic heritage and style to create an exquisite collection of handmade jewelry and decorative objects.
Catherine, creator and owner of the international jewelry and accessory company La Vie Parisienne, is a Paris native and the leading force reviving the elegance and grace of France's golden Art Nouveau and Art Deco eras.
Manufactured at Au Bout de Reves, a workshop Catherine herself built on a vineyard in the heart of the Loire Valley, France, each piece is rendered from the original molds and stamping, hand set with Austrian crystals and finally painstakingly enameled by her team of highly skilled artisans.
Never one to rest long on her laurels, Catherine travels the world sampling new cultures and incorporating the essences of these far off lands into her own work. A visionary, Catherine's artistic and creative sensibilities have taken her into numerous creative fields beyond fashion and jewelry design.

Karen Adams bio...
fifty years in the works
I was born in Memphis, TN but before any roots were put down my family moved to Tokyo Japan. We were fortunate to travel around the world and see many wonderful places, people and things. I am thankful to have had a huge diverse world opened up to me at an early age. We moved back to the states and moved from Memphis to Omaha back to Memphis to Cincinnati to Houston. I had a lot of time in new places before school started and had to be creative to entertain myself.
My parents let me choose any college I wanted to go to ( an amazing gesture that I was compelled to pass along to my children ) so I chose and luckily got in to the Rhode Island School of Design, RISD. I loved college. My major was apparel design; in turn, I moved to NYC to work for a few places including KIKIT ( Bill Cosby sweaters ) and J. Crew. New York City in the 80’s was memorable.
Fast forward to suburban life when I had children. I did faux finishes and mural painting because of the flexible schedule. I also volunteered to do invitations for nonprofit organization parties. I wanted to make a big bang first impression on the recipient so went all out on the cards. It was fun, had great feedback so thought this is a business I would like to start. I went to the Stationery Show in 1999, the official start of Karen Adams Designs. It is continuing to change and evolve as we all grow. My daughter Wallis now works with us which is the best thing ever; she is amazing of course. I also have an amazing son, Avery.
I want to be clever, innovative, classic but in a fun way. I want people to smile or laugh and feel good. You know when you are out for a walk and pass someone who smiles and says “hello” and you think “ I love that people smile and say hi, this world is pretty great.” That is how I want what we send out into the world to make people feel.
Hi, I'm Sarah Cooley. I'm the Founder + CEO here at Simply Curated. When I started Simply Curated back in 2012 it was just what the name implies, a curated online store with a simple aesthetic. In the beginning I was only curating vintage pieces and my dream was to have a store where you could always find something special to brighten your mood. Eventually I started to make soy candles in beautiful vintage barware and that just took off. Before I knew it I was selling more candles then vintage housewares so I decided that candles would be the new direction for the company.
I still had a dream of this well curated store filled with candles, paper goods, lifestyle products and home goods that I couldn't get out of my head. So in late 2013 I started stocking wares from other independent designers and brands. I'm happy to carry the work of so many amazing companies and I hope that one day my dream of having a physical store will become a reality.
In October of 2014 I moved the company (and myself) to Grand Rapids, Michigan. I moved into a great studio with the ability to expand the production scale of our candles. In January of 2015, after a whole year of work, I launched our first original collection, the Cocktail Collection. Inspired by the vintage barware that started it all, we released 4 original patterns with brilliantly designed new packaging and a packaging update for the whole line. I'm excited to continue to share this journey as the company grows.
Our candles are all hand-poured in our studio in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The 100% soy wax is blended in small batches with fragrances and essential oils. Our candles are 100% phthalate free and will burn cleanly all the way down. Every single candle is poured by hand and hand labeled and packaged. We are proud to make a product that is beautiful, sustainable and 100% Made in the USA.
Custom made by Tuscaloosa's own Annie Poole May, her bridal books make the perfect touch to your showers and wedding.
